A soothing herbal Indian chai brewed with holy basil (tulsi) and licorice root (mulethi).

Earthy, comforting, and naturally healing — this tea is perfect for calming the senses and easing the throat.

  • Total Time: 3 minutes
  • Yield: 1 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Tea Leaves
  • 45 Tulsi Leaves
  • 1 small piece Mulethi (licorice)
  • Sugar and Milk to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse tulsi leaves and lightly crush them to release their aroma. Break mulethi into a small piece if not already cut.
  2. In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add tulsi leaves and mulethi, and let them simmer for 2–3 minutes to infuse their herbal goodness.
  3. Stir in tea leaves and continue simmering for another 1–2 minutes, depending on how strong you like your brew.
  4. Add milk and sugar (optional): For a richer chai, add a splash of milk and sugar to taste. Stir well and let it simmer briefly until the color deepens.
  5. Strain into a heatproof mug or glass, discarding the leaves and mulethi.
  6. Garnish beautifully (optional): Float a fresh tulsi leaf on top or sprinkle a pinch of cardamom for an aromatic finish.
  7. Enjoy steaming hot — soothing, mildly sweet, and full of natural warmth.
  8. Optional tip: Add a small piece of ginger while boiling for a restorative, immunity-boosting twist.
